A nice swim with a nice snack

The village near Beroun, located on the river Berounka, offers a lot. Ideal for a half-day trip, either by train or along the cycle path from Beroun. Here you can visit the glassworks and look at the production and processing of glass, visit a beautiful castle with a nearby cemetery, ride a bike trial and eat very well in the restaurant of the Prague hotel. In the summer months, Nižbor is a great place for swimming.

We arrived late for a tour. But there was enough time to sign up to see the store and shop a bit.

Until 1946, the village was called Nová Huť (sometimes also Nová Huť u Berouna or Nová Huť pod Nižborem), as the basis of the village was an iron smelter, founded in 1512 by the Ottů family from Los. The end of the ironworks was caused by a great flood in 1872 and the fall of the Vienna Stock Exchange in 1873. Today, more than 2,000 people live here. An important industrial enterprise in the village is a glassworks owned by former Senator Jiří Rückl. The most beautiful view of Nižbor (at the same time a tip for a great trip) can be found at the tip of a rocky promontory under the church of the Ascension of St. Crosses when you reach it following the red sign from Křivoklát Castle through beautiful wooded hills. The village is the intersection of hiking trails towards Křivoklátsko and Beroun, the river is very popular among paddlers. Interesting fact: The 14th meridian of east longitude passes through Nižbor, the exact place is marked in the castle paving and there is also a table with the inscription: "The 14th meridian of V.Z.D.
