Nenápadná a klidná obec (trvale tu žije něco kolem 500 obyvatel) bývá nazývána jednou z bran do Českého ráje. října tu každou sobotu, neděli a státní svátek dokonce staví Podtrosecký rychlík, který jezdí z Prahy do oblasti Českého ráje a Prachovských skal, až do Jičína a zpět. An inconspicuous and quiet village (around 500 inhabitants live here permanently) is often called as one of the gates to the Bohemian Paradise. Mainly due to the railway station Mladějov v Čechách situated on the railway line from Mladá Boleslav to Libuň and Stará Paka (completed in 1906), there is good accessibility especially to Mladá Boleslav. From March 30th to October 28th, every Saturday, Sunday and public holiday, Podtrosecký express train, which runs from Prague to the Bohemian Paradise and Prachovské Rocks to Jičín and back, has a stop here. From the bus stop in the center of the village there is a red marked hiking path that leads east through the castle Pařez and Prachovské skály to Jičín. To the north a blue-marked hiking trail guides you to the famous Trosky Castle.

There is a large quarry in the village, in which glass sands are mined - about 40% of the extracted raw material is transported to the glassworks by rail.
