Adrian Ludwig Richter was a German painter and illustrator of the Romantic period. He was born in Friedrichstadt on the left bank of the Elbe. He first came to Bohemia when he was fifteen when he accompanied his father (also an artist). In 1834 he made a trip to nearby northern Bohemia, which he described in his memoirs. Drawings with themes from Ústí nad Labem have been preserved. Especially the ruins of Střekov castle continued to fascinate him. This Elbe landmark became the subject of several sketches and oil paintings. The Bohemian Highlands attracted Richter. About twenty of his stays in the Czech Republic are documented. In his memoirs he writes about visits to Krupka, Bohosudov, Sebuzín or Kamýk Castle. He last visited Ústí nad Labem in 1875.
