Adrian Ludwig Richter was a German painter and illustrator of the Romantic period. He was born in the village of Friedrichstadt on the left bank of the Elbe. He first came to Bohemia when he was fifteen, when he accompanied his father (also an artist). In 1834 he undertook a trip to nearby northern Bohemia, which he also described in his memoirs. Drawings with motifs from it, especially from the Ústí nad Labem region, have been preserved from it. The ruins of Střekov in particular continued to fascinate him. The castle became the subject of several of his sketches and oil paintings. The Bohemian Central Highlands attracted Richter. About twenty of his stays in the Czech Republic are documented. In his memoirs he writes about visits to Krupka, Bohosudov, Sebuzín or Kamýk Castle. He last visited Ústí nad Labem in 1875.
