Самая старая ротунда в Праге. По приданию была возведена на месте озера, в котором утопили распятую девушку (на кресте), принявшу христианство без ведома родителей. На следующее утро после казни крест с телом девушки был обнаружен возвышающимся над поверхностью воды, что было воспринято как знамение для строительства Ротунды. Первые письменные упоминания датириваны 1365 годом. Строительство относиться к 11му столетию. Забавный факт - при реконструкции, на уровне фундамента был обнаружен огромный деревянный крест в полуразрушенном состоянии.
 Very interesting structure of the Romanesque style.
The oldest rotunda in Prague. According to the legend, it was erected on the site of a lake in which the crucified girl (on the cross), who converted to Christianity without the knowledge of her parents, was drowned. The morning after the execution, the cross with the girl’s body was discovered towering above the surface of the water, which was taken as a sign for the construction of the Rotunda. The first written records are dated 1365. Construction dates back to the 11th century. Funny fact - during the reconstruction, at the basement level, a huge wooden cross was found in a dilapidated state.

A na vrcholu stavby svítilo světlo v temných nocích v době středověku neb kostel jako nejvyšší stavba v době svého vzniku byl i orientačním bodem. Krása...
The feeling when you're praying inside the nave of the temple, as if time has stopped here ... And in a small space, people are closer. Thick walls protected believers as early as Romanesque times. And at the top of the building, light shone on dark nights in the Middle Ages, because the church, as the tallest building at the time of its creation, was also a landmark. Beauty...

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My son is studying Romanesque architecture and I wanted to show him an original rotunda, not a reconstruction like St Martin in Vysehrad.
We were quite disappointed that it’s under scaffolding and netting, but we are quite happy that it is clearly being maintained.
Hope to return when it’s repaired…
