Hrad Cimburk se nachází v blízkosti města Koryčany v nadmořské výšce 421 m n. m. Hrad zaujímal strategickou polohu u křižovatky dvou dopravních cest a to cesty od Uherského Hradiště kolem hradu Buchlova na Stupavu a Koryčany a cesty vedoucí z Kroměříže do Střílek, dále pak přes Koryčany až do Hustopeč.
