Most stojí (takřka) na místě středověkého kamenného mostu biskupa Jana z Dražic, považovaného po Juditině a píseckém mostě za třetí nejstarší kamenný most v Čechách - šlo ovšem o první kamenný most přes řeku Labe. The remarkable seven-pole arched road bridge across the Elbe to the center of Roudnice under the castle was built between 1906-1910. It´s beautifully designed pillars are lightened by transversely-arched openings. It is a combined structure (stone pillars and steel supporting structures). A ramp was built under the castle, on which the house stands for the collector of bridge fees with the momory plaques inside. Opposite the house there is a statue of Bohemia and the Czech Lion, symbolizing Roudnice's position on the national Czech-German border. The bridge stands almost on the site of the medieval stone bridge of Bishop Jan of Dražice, considered to be the third oldest stone bridge in Bohemia - after Judith's bridge in Prague and the old Písek Bridge, but it is the first one to cross the Elbe river. It was built between 1333-1338 under the command of Vilém of Avignon. It was demolished in the Thirty Years' War. By the beginning of the 20th century however only a fraction of the last arch had to be retreated from the river bank. Only a stone mark of Bishop Jan IV. from Dražice remained, and today you can find it on the bridge ramp underneath the castle. Interesting facts: During the summer of 2018, a demanding reconstruction is being prepared, which has caused stormy debate among experts, inhabitants of Roudnice and Vědomice and the town hall. It will be interesting to see how the whole thing end up like.
