The only entrance (and ascent) to the historical part of the city is connected with the legacy of the preacher, monk and theologian who managed to reach people in the 13th century and lead them to humility, patience and reconciliation.

The original baroque statue from 1734 stood in the alley before the Franciscan monastery in Slaný until 1891 after which it was moved to the monastery grounds. At the end of the 19th century it was replaced by a copy from a sculptor A. Havel from Slaný region. The damaged statue was restored by academic sculptor Jan Turský and Jarmil Plachý in 2011. Saint Anthony with a little Jesus in his right hand and a lily in his left is now placed on a new pedestal of Božanov sandstone in the defunct Prague Gate at the foot of a restored bridge in Vinařická Street. Saint Anthony of Padua was originally the canon of St. Augustine who received the name Antonín after 1220. He went to proclaim the Gospel to Africa, but soon he became ill and had to return to Europe. After a short stay in Sicily, he met the founder of the Order of St. Francis of Assisi (1221). Thousands of people came to his preaching - his legendary "Fish Preaching" is known. He died on 13 June 1231 in his monastery in Arcelle near Padua. He was canonized already in 1232 and it´s celebrated on the day of his death.
