Geologické podloží tvoří vápnité pískovce a slínovce svrchní křídy a můžeme jej zařadit k tzv. České křídové tabuli, která zahrnuje velkou část severovýchodních Čech. Tyto horniny jsou zde překryty nivními půdami a říčními náplavy s velmi úrodnou půdou (tzv. nivní hlíny). Vyskytují se zde mokřadní rostlinná společenstva (stulík žlutý, leknín bělostný). Jako zástupce typické zdejší fauny můžeme uvést skokana hnědého a ropuchu obecnou, najdeme tu i četná nízdiště vodních ptáků, ramena slouží jako rybářský revír. Going along the red marked tourist route from Benátky nad Jizerou to Mladá Boleslav along the river is a really awesome experience. Even though I was there at the beginning of June, I have not met almost anyone on the road (except for the villages I passed through). You mostly go unpaved by meadows or woods. In short, the best kind of psychotherapy for a drenched urban man. Between the town district of Dražice and the village of Horky nad Jizerou I walked through the territory of Old Jizera. This is one of the last examples of a flooded biotope on the river. Protection of the area was declared in 1987. The subject of protection is the blind shoulders and the bounded meadows and wetlands. The river at the site is a large meander with two dead shoulders. The first one (the larger one) is located on the inner side of the meander and is called Stará Jizera. The second smaller shoulder on the outside of the meander is called the Moon. The geological subsoil is made of limestone sandstone and mire of the upper Cretaceous period and can be included in the so-called Czech chalkboard, which includes a large part of the north-eastern Bohemia. These rocks are covered with floodplains with very fertile soils. There are wetland plant communities, as a representative of the typical fauna, we can mention the frogs, as well as numerous low-water birds, the dead shoulders of the river serving as a fishing ground.

In short, the best kind of psychotherapy for a battered urban person. Between the Dražice district and the Horky nad Jizerou village, I walked through the territory of Stará Jizera. This is one of the last examples of alluvial habitat on the river. The protection of the area was declared in 1987. The subject of protection is blind shoulders and waterlogged meadows and wetlands attached to them. The river at the site forms a large meander, near which there are two dead branches. The first (larger of them) is located on the inside of the meander and is called Stará Jizera. The second smaller arm on the outside of the meander is called the Moon. The geological subsoil consists of calcareous sandstones and plinths of the Upper Cretaceous and can be included in the so-called Czech Cretaceous, which includes a large part of northeastern Bohemia. These rocks are covered with alluvial soils and river alluvium with very fertile soil (so-called alluvial clays). There are wetland plant communities (yellow stingray, white water lily). As a representative of the typical local fauna, we can mention the brown frog and the common toad, we can also find numerous waterfowl places here, the arms serve as a fishing ground.
