Edvard Beneš (původním jménem Eduard) byl československý politik a státník, druhý československý prezident v letech 1935–1948, resp. v letech 1935–1938 a 1945–1948. V období tzv. Druhé republiky a následné německé okupaci do května 1945 žil a politicky působil v exilu.

In 2005, a bronze statue of the second Czechoslovak president Edvard Beneš was unveiled before the Czernin Palace, the seat of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The statue, cast according to the original from K. Dvořák, created in the times of Beneš's life, was installed by the Edvard Beneš Society with the support of the Legionaries association, foreign pilots and freedom fighters. The revelation of the statue did not go without political controversy.

A small monument to the second president of Czechoslovakia, Edward Beneš, towers in front of the Cherninsky Palace in Loretan Square. The place where the monument was erected was not accidental: before becoming head of state, Benes held the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs for a long time and is considered the founder of Czechoslovak foreign policy. The grand opening of the monument took place in May 2005, which was preceded by the adoption of the law on the recognition of Benes’s merits. The initiators of the installation of the monument were members of the Edward Benes Society, who were supported by several Czech associations. Polutorametrovaya statue, standing on a high pedestal, depicts the president, thoughtfully folded his hands in front of him. The sculpture is a cast copy of the work of Karel Dvorak, who was a friend of the Beneshev family. In 1948-1951, the original statue was located in the Pantheon of the National Museum until it was removed from there by order of the communist government.
