I went through this statue without special interest, because I had no idea the context described by Vladimír Pecha here. I would like to add that T. Shevchenko was the founder of modern national literature, a symbol of the country and Ukrainian culture. And that he stayed in this world for only 17,168 days.

Taras Hryhorovyč Ševčenko (9. března 1814 – 10. března 1861) byl ukrajinský básník a výtvarný umělec, vedle Ivana Kotljarevského zakladatel moderní národní literatury, symbol země a ukrajinské kultury. Když chceš a umíš chodit bočními chodníčky, jde všechno - i bez povolení... In 2009 Kinsky Square a naughty 3.5 meter statue of the Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko appeared in all silence, without permission. The statue was financed and built on the basis of a short and invalid permission of former leadership of the Smichov Town Hall headed by the famous Mayor Jančík, the Ukrainian embassy on the occasion of the visit of Ukrainian President Yushchenko at that time. Interestingly the author has nothing to do with Bohemia even less with Prague 5 (except that a postage stamp with his portrait was published in Czech). Taras Hryhorovich Shevchenko (March 9, 1814 - March 10, 1861) was a Ukrainian poet and art artist, next to Ivan Kotljarevsky, the founder of modern national literature, a symbol of the country and the Ukrainian culture. For Bohemians this place with the statue is rather a symbol of classical Czech "cunning". If you DO want something and you can walk along the sidewalks, it's all yours - even without permission... Unbeatable Czech approach.
In 2009, a 3.5-meter statue of the Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko appeared in Kinsky Square in silence, without permission, and essentially illegally. The statue was financed and commissioned by the Ukrainian embassy on the occasion of the then visit of Ukrainian President Yushchenko on the basis of a hasty and invalidly issued permit from the then management of Smíchov City Hall, led by the famous mayor Jančík. It is interesting that the author has nothing to do with the Czechs, let alone with Prague 5 (except that a postage stamp with his portrait was issued in the Czech Republic). Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko (March 9, 1814 - March 10, 1861) was a Ukrainian poet and visual artist, alongside Ivan Kotlyarevsky, the founder of modern national literature, a symbol of the country and Ukrainian culture. For us, the place is more of a symbol of classical Czech "cleverness". If you want and can walk on sidewalks, everything goes - even without permission ...
a touching monument to Shevchenko in his younger years, during the war with Russia, I recommend going, because Taras Shevchenko turned out to be a prophet.
