Památník bitvy u Kolína nechal na tehdejším Novoveském vrchu, dnes zvaném Bedřichov (279 m. n. m.), vystavět v roce 1841 majitel kolínského panství Václav Veith podle návrhu architekta Václava Weinzettla. Slavnostní vysvěcení mělo proběhnout u příležitosti rakousko-pruského vojenského cvičení na Kolínsku 22. až 28. září 1841, ale dvorská válečná rada doporučila, aby na již vybudovaný pomník nebylo umísťováno nic, co by tuto bitvu připomínalo. Z tohoto důvodu na něj nebyly ani instalovány naplánované reliéfy s bitevními výjevy, jejichž předlohu vypracoval známý mnichovský sochař Michael Ludwig von Schwanthaler, autor řady pomníků v Německu a Rakousku. Jednoduchá stavba z pískovcových kvádrů ve tvaru vysokého štíhlého komolého jehlanu zůstala oficiálně neoznačena až do roku 1889, kdy byla opravena a opatřena stručnými texty v češtině a němčině. Nápis byl později odstraněn a ztracen. 18. června 2005 byla na pomníku slavnostně odhalena nová pamětní deska, zhotovená podle návrhu akademického sochaře Miloslava Smrkovského, s českým, německým a anglickým textem. The monument to the Battle of Kolín was built in 1841 by the owner of the Kolín estate, Václav Veith, on the former Novoveský Hill, now called Bedřichov (279 m above sea level), according to a design by the architect Václav Weinzettel. The dedication ceremony was to take place on the occasion of the Austro-Prussian military training in the Cologne region on 22-28 September 1841, but the court war council recommended that nothing commemorating the battle be placed on the already built monument. For this reason, the planned reliefs with battle scenes, the design of which was drawn up by the well-known Munich sculptor Michael Ludwig von Schwanthaler, author of a number of monuments in Germany and Austria, were not even installed on it. The simple building made of sandstone blocks in the shape of a tall, slender conical spire remained officially unmarked until 1889, when it was repaired and provided with brief texts in Czech and German. The inscription was later removed and lost. On 18 June 2005, a new memorial plaque, designed by the academic sculptor Miloslav Smrkovský, was unveiled on the monument with Czech, German and English text.
