Nobody will probably find out how long a pleading procession was held in Sadská in the spring after St. Mark's Day on April 25, when everything was supposed to be planted and sown in soil. It was a church celebration, when the procession of believers singing songs went from the church towards the street "v Korejtkách" and further into the fields. The procession then continued along the Písty Road, to the White Cross, which was built in 1850 by Matěj Houžvička from Sadská at the edge of his own field. Here the Dean asked in prayer of the Lord God for a good harvest. Then they went further through the fields and woods to Písty village, where the festival ended in the village square. The importance of these pilgrimages gradually declined, until it disappeared at the beginning of the 20th century. The White Cross allegedly interfered with the amelioration and alignment of new fields. In 1974 it was destroyed and dismantled. Only one small photo with an illegible sign on the original cross remained. In 2013 a few enthusiasts found the inscription in one private chronicle. They were trying to restore the cross. The new White Cross is 290 centimeters high. The plinth and the stele are made of gray marble and the cross itself of white marble. Christ is made of cast iron with gold coating, it was originally stored in the Church of St. Apollinar in Sadská. On June 8, 2014, a Pilgrimage with a procession to the Piston took place, when the replica of the White Cross was blessed again.
The Czech landscape is remarkable for a number of smaller sacral monuments scattered throughout its territory. It is often found on sites today abandoned, through which passes most tourists in the summer, and sometimes not even the local know to what event or tradition used to be connected. Finding some relevant information resembles a detective quest. When I was standing in front of the White Cross in fields near Sadská, I thought at first that this would be the case, but the opposite was true.
