Shortly after the foundation of the settlement of Bakov a wooden chapel of the Virgin Mary was built on an elevated hill in the natural center of the village. In 1384 it was rebuilt into a Gothic stone church. The original chapel has been preserved as one of the niches of today's church. The first significant Gothic reconstruction took place in the second half of the 16th century. At that time, the church tower was hung with bells and new clocks, which were reportedly taken from nearby Zvířetice castle. After the fire in 1643 the church was repaired and equipped with new bells in the second half of the 17th century thanks to Countess Eleonora of Rottal.

Nice place, but the parish priest probably thinks that people must behave according to his wishes.
