This was actually far more interesting than I expected. It isnt a massive place and wont take too long to go round but its well worth it. The building itself is really lovely and the exhibits are many and varied. There are lots of beautiful old instruments, lots of strange instruments you have never heard of and the option to play a few and listen to recordings of most. I wpuld have like to see more paintings/photography of music through the ages and a few of the listening posts have obviously been used to death and where not working but anyone with even a passing interest in music will enjoy this i think.

It was a wonderful experience, they have a few hundred instruments on display from the last four centuries and interactive panels that allow you to listen to them and also give you food for thought with tidbits of info While the permanent exhibition is good enough for the price, it was the temporary one that struck me deeply, a presentation of the history of music in Communist Czechoslovakia

If this isn't on your list then I recommend adding it. So many beautiful and unique instruments. The tour is very well laid out and the main hall is absolutely amazing. They have a piano in the main hall for all to play. The staff was very helpful with giving you directions.

The National Museum – Czech Museum of Music (České muzeum hudby) is on Karmelitská 4, Praha 1 - Malá Strana, Czech Republic. The new seat of the Czech Museum of Music is located in the former Baroque church of St. Mary Magdalene at Lesser Side, built in the 17th Century according to the proposal of Francesco Caratti. The church was gradually rebuilt after the dissolution of the Dominican Monastery in 1783. Among other things, it served as a Police barracks and archive. The unusual symbiosis of the early Baroque church architecture with the classicist adjustment of usage and newly finished reconstruction of the Museum offers visitors a detail of an impressive combination of monumentality. Opening hours: - January – December: opem on Mon, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun from 10:00 to 18:00 Entrance fee: - Basic: 120 CZK - Reduced: 80 CZK - Free admission: children up to 15 years; children from children’s homes or SOS children’s villages; holders of physical disability cards (ZTP, ZTP/P and people accompanying them); holders of cards: ICOM, Slovak National Museum, the National Museum Society, Benefit card of the European GNSS Agency – the Ministry of Transport, Prague Card, employee of a contributory organization of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic

Great museum, everything is well explained in english. Temporary exhibition ground floor + permanent exhibition first floor. The permanent exhibition gather different type of instruments in each rooms. They have really beautiful pieces. In every room, you have a screen and headphones to listen to the instruments presented and have more info about it. I really recommend if you like music. You learn a lot.

Amazing museum for every musician and people who are interested in music. Great examples of musical instruments of 500 years that are still copied or even played. Great part of interaction or even for kids.
