Výstavba českobratrského evangelického chrámu byla zahájena roku 1863 ve stylu dobového historismu. K libčickému kostelu bylo přiděleno mnoho dalších obcí, neboť je jediným českobratrským evangelickým chrámem v okolí. Evangelický hřbitov byl již před vznikem kostela vybudován na vysoké skalní plošině, mimo obydlené území města. Poblíž hřbitova najdeme stopy po středověkém kamenném Liběhradu, který byl bohužel odstřelen při stavbě železnice. Náhrobky na katolickém a evangelickém hřbitově patří k nejvýznamnějším kulturním památkám Libčic.
