Velice hezká obec s krásným okolím. V okolí Holan je mnoho rybníků, pískovcových skal a zřícenina několika hradů.
Very nice village with beautiful surroundings. There are many ponds, sandstone rocks and ruins of several castles around Holan.

Obzvláště okolní rybníky se zbytky mlýnů, mostu s pannou a netvorem, památníkem skauta Bělského i několika hrady.
Especially the surrounding ponds with the remains of mills, a bridge with a virgin and a monster, a monument to the scout Bělský and several castles.

Do počátku 17.století byly Holany hospodářským a kulturním střediskem, měly dokonce i právo várečné. Holany was founded around 1200, the first written mention of the village dates back to 1352, and so is the one of the oldest Slavic settlements in the district of Česká Lípa. At that time the village belonged to the powerful Berka family, which ranked among the richest in the whole Bohemia. From the middle of the 15th century it came into the possession of the Vartemberk family. During the reign of Charles IV. Holany were promoted to a city and acquired capital rights, town emblems and toll rights. Until the beginning of the 17th century, it was an economic and cultural center, which even had a brewing right. The village is set in a beautiful rolling countryside, dotted with lots of ponds, so it must be really busy here during the season. This was one of the reasons why I chose winter for my first visit. The local landscape was partially shrouded in a haze, not a soul around, that was really interesting experience. These places are simply beautiful any time of year.
