Toto označení bylo přeneseno na název křižovatky lesních cest na silničce mezi Novou Hutí a Horní Světlou. Buk byl nazván podle kupce Josefa Kaufmanna z Horní Světlé, který tudy jezdil dvakrát týdně ve 20. letech 20. století do Dolního Podluží prodávat potraviny a lesní plody. Dne 11. září 1928 byl poblíž rozcestí při návratu zákeřně zastřelen a oloupen, jeho koně sami dojeli s povozem i se zastřeleným kupcem domů. Tato vražda nikdy nebyla objasněna a její pachatel nikdy nebyl vypátrán. Na kmenu buku byl připevněn malý obrázek, připomínající vraždu. Zanikl ale po roce 1945 a později byl poražen i buk. Dne 24. září 2006 byla na jiném buku poblíž místa vraždy odhalena nová pamětní deska zhotovená Andreasem Prescherem z Grossschönau.
Kaufmann's beech was a tree that stood before the Second World War in the place where the merchant Josef Kaufman was shot in 1928. This designation was transferred to the name of the crossroads of forest roads on the road between Nova Hutí and Horní Světlá. The beech was named after the buyer Josef Kaufmann from Horní Světlá, who traveled here twice a week in the 1920s to Dolní Podluží to sell food and berries. On September 11, 1928, he was insidiously shot and robbed near the crossroads on his return, and his horses arrived home with the carriage and the shot buyer. This murder was never solved and its perpetrator was never tracked down. A small picture resembling a murder was attached to the beech trunk. However, it disappeared after 1945 and later the beech was defeated. On September 24, 2006, a new memorial plaque made by Andreas Prescher of Grossschönau was unveiled on another beech near the murder scene.
