Maltese Aid is a non-governmental non-profit organization established by the Czech Grand Priory of the Sovereign Order of the Knights of Malta and operating in our country since 2002. Its goal is to provide charitable services to the needy, especially the sick, disabled and the elderly. Let me mention the beautiful building of the Grand Prior's Palace, where the organization is based. It is based on Romanesque foundations, as a house that Prince Vladislav I dedicated to the Order of St. John, later to the Order of the Knights of Malta, probably stood in its place in the second half of the 12th century. The palace was rebuilt several times. The Italian architect Carlo Lurago carried out early Baroque reconstructions and after 1725 a large Baroque reconstruction took place under the direction of the architect Bartolomeo Scotti.
