Město Sobotka

Město Sobotka (2500 obyv.) je nazýváno jižní branou Českého ráje a leží 70 km severovýchodně od Prahy, mezi Mladou Boleslaví a Jičínem. Jde o město s bohatou historií a kulturní tradicí - každoročně se zde koná festival českého jazyka a literatury Šrámkova Sobotka a Sobotecký jarmark s festivalem uměleckých řemesel. Nad městem se nachází jedinečný lovecký zámek Humprecht ze 17. století, který je národní kulturní památkou. Ze Sobotky vedou turistické trasy na hrad Kost, hrad Trosky, zámek Staré Hrady nebo do údolí Plakánek.

Kromě titulní plastiky nese sochy svatých Václava, Vojtěcha, Prokopa a Jana Nepomuckého a reliéfy svatých Maří Magdaleny, Rosalie a Františka Xaverského. Poslední dva jmenovaní napovídají, že sloup měl kromě vyjádření úcty matce Kristově a zemským patronům vyjádřit i poděkování za odvrácení morových epidemií. Tento je dílem známých kamenosochařů Jelínků ( Kosmonosy, Benátky n. J. ) a byl dokončen v r. 1746. Osadili jej kromě P. Marie ještě čtyřmi sochami českých patronů. Every city in the Baroque period, especially after the disasters (plague, fires, etc.) had to add a votive column of Thanksgiving. This is the work of the well-known sculptors Jelínek (Kosmonosy, Benátky n. J.) and was completed in 1746. In addition to the Virgin Mary, it was fitted with four other statues of Czech patrons.
