★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Rozlehlý a působivý městský hřbitov nalezneme u kostela Narození Panny Marie. Místo posledního odpočinku zde našla spousta významných osobností turnovska.
Například u západní zdi poblíž kostela stojí náhrobek katolického kněze, turnovského rodáka Fortunáta Durycha (1735–1802), člena řádu paulánů, latinsky píšícího filologa, orientalisty, stoupence ideje slovanské sounáležitosti a zakladatele a průkopníka českého odborného slavistického studia. Zhruba uprostřed hřbitova najdeme náhrobek rodiny Boháčkovy, Kuhnovy a JUDr. Vojtěcha Fotra s figurální výzdobou anděla z roku 1908 je vynikající ukázkou secesní funerální architektury. Anděla navrhl a modeloval sochař Vilém Amort, v kameni provedl B. Holub a odlil K. Bendelmayer. Jednoduchá úprava hrobu rodiny Šimákovy spočívá z pískovcové obruby a desky a náhrobku z černé žuly.
A large and impressive city cemetery can be found at the Church of the Birth of Our Lady. The place of the last rest has found a lot of important figures of Turnov area.
For example, the tombstone of a Catholic priest, the Turnov native of Fortunát Durych (1735-1802), a member of the order of the Paulans, a Latin writing philologist, orientalists, supporters of the idea of Slavic unity, and the founder and pioneer of Czech specialized Slavic study. Roughly in the middle of the cemetery there is a tombstone of the family Boháčkova, Kuhn and JUDr. Vojtech Fotra with a figural figure of an angel from 1908 is an excellent example of Art Nouveau funerary architecture. The angel was designed and modeled by sculptor Vilém Amort, made by B. Holub and casting K. Bendelmayer. The tombstone belongs to Václav Šetřil (1816-1890), an important Turnov engraver of precious stones. The grave site is defined by a decorative forged fence, which is a very valuable demonstration of artistic blacksmithing. The tombstone is a stone made of a base and a cross. Simple treatment of the grave of Šimákova family consists of sandstone frames and a slab and tombstone made of black granite. The important Czech historian Josef Vítězslav Šimák is buried here.
If you pass the graves through the corridor to the south-east of the cemetery, you will find an interesting mourning hall with a morgue. The construction was carried out by Vladimír Krýš on the basis of his project in the late 1930s. It is a modern, stylishly constructed structure that corresponds to its intended purpose with its architectural concept. The construction of the morgue was probably related to the modifications of the Marian temple, which took place in 1930-1931, when this operation was expelled from the sanctuary. Directly across from the mourning hall - in a height-difference part of the cemetery - there is now a sensitively reconstructed cemetery wall (rebuilt in 2017) with an access staircase from the upper part of the cemetery. There are a number of tombstones before the cemetery wall.
A large and impressive city cemetery can be found at the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. Many important personalities of the Turnov region found their last resting place here.
For example, at the western wall near the church stands the tombstone of a Catholic priest, Fortunát Durych (1735–1802), a native of Turnov, a member of the Pauline order, a philologist writing in Latin, an orientalist Roughly in the middle of the cemetery we find the tombstone of the Boháček, Kuhn and JUDr. Vojtěch Fotr with a figural decoration of an angel from 1908 is an excellent example of Art Nouveau funeral architecture. The angel was designed and modeled by sculptor Vilém Amort, in stone by B. Holub and cast by K. Bendelmayer. The tombstone belongs to Václav Šetřil (1816–1890), an important Turnov gem engraver. The grave site is delimited by an ornately wrought-iron enclosure, which is a very valuable example of artistic blacksmithing. The tombstone is made of stone with a pedestal and a cross. A simple modification of the tomb of the Šimák family consists of a sandstone edging and a slab and tombstone made of black granite. The important Czech historian Josef Vítězslav Šimák is buried in the place.
If you walk around the tombs southeast further from the church, you will come across an interesting mourning hall with a morgue. The construction was carried out by Vladimír Krýš on the basis of his project in the late 1930s. It is a modern, stylistically distinctive building, which with its architectural concept corresponds to the purpose for which it was intended. The construction of the morgue was probably related to the modifications of the Marian church carried out in the years 1930–1931, when this operation was excluded from the sanctuary. Directly opposite the mourning hall - in the height-different part of the cemetery - there is now a sensitively reconstructed cemetery wall (rec. From 2017) with an access staircase from the upper part of the cemetery. In front of the dividing cemetery wall we can also find a number of tombstones.
