Moravian Museum

History of Moravia mostly. Currently, a lot of expos here lack english. If you do not understand czech, you will not get full experience.

Very oldschool museum without any interactive expositions. Propably last big reconstruction on early 90´s. But still you can find tons of historical informations and expositions about Moravia region (from prehistoric times to the end of middle age). There is also exposition with minerals and geological informations.

It's big, take a day out for the whole building, it's worth it if you want to get to know the history of the area and more. There's a nice restaurant downstairs for coffee and a cake, so you'll manage ;) if you like visiting musea, you'll like this one too

Went today with a family of 4. 2 adults and 2 children. We had 1 push chair with us - first thing I noticed that the wheelchair access was locked, so I just lifted up the push chair by my hands, didn't think much of it. I did notice a lot of notices stating that toilets in the museum are not public toilets and are for museum visitors only. As we were approaching ticket desk, my wife and 3 year old daughter were making their way to the loo and without greeting were questioned about where they were going. At that point, being bilingual I explained to the cashier that we are about to buy tickets - I had my other child in push chair in clear view of the cashier in excess of 15 minutes with no other customers in sight. Once we made our way to the exposition (animals of Moravia) we were told we can't bring push chair in and that there was no step free access to this part of museum. Naturally, we got quite upset, and the lady in charge of the section told us that it's all written down in black and white in her notes. We ended up splitting the party because my daughter was very upset by the outlook of being unable to see the animals. Horrendous experience, nevermind the fact that the exhibition is extremely out of date, still referring to the Czech Republic as ČSSR - an abbreviation for its time in communism era, a name the country has not been know for for nearly 30 years!!!! Out of date exhibition with out of date mentality. Perhaps investing less to tell people to piss elsewhere they should invest in up to date notices when in comes to the name of the country. Makes you look like bunch of idiots in the eyes of foreign tourists. I'd like a response to this please if anyone actually cares about the opinions of the public, but I don't put my hopes up

The temporary exhibition (pottery and archaeology) and the exhibition about Moravia in the 20th century were definitely worth visiting. Sadly the other permanent exhibitions are extremely outdated and not available in other languages besides Czech. These exhibitions seemed to have been unchanged since the 1980's, and this is such a shame since it's evident the museum has a collection with so much potential. They could really create an impressive museum of natural history if they modernised their permanent exhibitions. Would wholeheartedly advise the Moravian Museum to anyone who wants to visit a museum, depicting a museum 50 years ago.

Beautiful part of historical centre with many interesting places to visit..

Quiet and spacious place for history and nature of Moravia. A great collection of minerals and precious stones, such a beauty!

Museum's permanent exhibit is really out of date and the layout is not easily understood (lots of logical areas were off limits as they were special exhibition tickets only). Minerals are nice but the only language is in Czech, nothing is translated and it's obvious they haven't bothered to update any of the placards as there are minerals from countries that don't even exist anymore.
