Z románské doby známe v prostoru dnešní Malé Strany rozptýlené osady: Obora, Trávníček, Nebovidy, Újezd a Rybáře. Kronikář Kosmas píše k roku 1091 o podhradí, o prstoru Hradu a o pohořelecké tržní osadě. Pohořelec (after the fire, destroyed by fire) is a local name that has some places affected by a fire in the past. The first fire, which is mentioned, affected this suburb of Hradčany at the end of the 11th century. Other fires are recorded in 1420, 1541 and 1742. There the fabled name came from. Pohořelec is the former suburb of Hradčany, founded in 1375 by the locksmith Alš of Malkovice. Probably in the 8th century a market settlement stood here as a stop on a long merchant way from West Bohemia. Even in the earliest times, the long-distance trail from the west to the Prague Castle led from there to Újezd to the south and across the Vltava fords to the east and north. From the Romanesque period, we know some scattered settlements in the area of today's Malá strana: Obora, Trávníček, Nebovidy, Újezd and Rybáře. Chronicler Kosmas writes about the castle, the lower castle and about the Pohořelec market settlement. It was destroyed by fire at the end of the 11th century and it is possible that this fact was the reason why the market center was relocated to the right bank of the Vltava River. At the beginning of the 15th century, this quarter was already completely built, but it was completely destroyed in the struggles with the Hussites in 1420. What was gradually built in the suburbs over the years, was destroyed again for the great fire by Hradčany and Malá Strana in 1541. The Pohořelec was again affected by the invasion of the French troops in 1742. By being one of the oldest inhabited settlements in Prague, a number of horrifying legends (such as Drahomíra's Princess, allegedly a grantor of the murder of the grandmother of St. Wenceslas, Ludmila at the Tetín fortress), are also linked to it´s area.

Pohořelec is a beautiful place in itself, and when the sleepy Karosa bus ride is passing by, it's really beautiful.

We stayed in this area for our weekend in Prague. It was ideal with the 22 tram stop close by. Some cool things to discover on a walk of the area too
