A quiet village in a beautiful landscape full of small and large sacral buildings, natural formations and a remarkable landmark - a rock castle. It has just over 700 inhabitants, but in the tourist season it becomes a popular tourist destination. And that there is something to see! The first historical mention dates from 1318. As early as 1327, there was a parish office, a church and a customs house on the old trade route from Prague to Zittau. In the first quarter of the 14th century, the region from Zittau through the Lusatian Mountains to the Českolipsko region belonged to the Ronovce family, Chval of Lipá and his sons. During the Hussite wars, the owner of the Sloup estate was the robber knight Mikeš Pancíř from Smojno. The village began to develop after 1726, when the manor was taken over by Count Josef Jan Maxmilián Kinský. He had a baroque chateau built here in the years 1730–1733. In 1848, Count Kinský became the owner of the Sloup Karel Estate. Part of his estate was 26 municipalities. As a result of the revolutionary events of 1848, radical changes in state administration took place in Austria-Hungary. During 1850, new counties, political and judicial districts were established.
