Socha Voraře na rohu ulic Pod Slovany a Ladova

On the corner of Pod Slavona and Ladova Streets there is at first glance an inconspicuous gray house. And this is not surprising, because at the turn of the 19-20 centuries, when reinforced concrete structures were first used, functionalism began to prevail in architecture. The new style was demanding on the strict correspondence of buildings to the industrial and domestic processes taking place in them - hence, in fact, its name. The only decoration of the house on Ladovaya Street was a lumberjack statue installed in the corner of the building at the level of the third floor. However, even in the sculpture itself, strictness and restraint can be traced. An interesting detail: it was in this house from 1925 that the national artist Joseph Lada lived and worked until his death (1957). Illustrator, draftsman, painter, stage designer and writer Josef Lada was born on December 17, 1887 in the central Bohemian village of Grusice, located near Prague. He was a member of the Association of Fine Artists Manes and the Hollar Association of Czech Graphic Artists. His works are presented not only in private but also in public collections, such as the Monument to Czech Literature, the National Gallery of Prague, the Olomouc Art Museum, the Regional Museum of Prague-East and others. During his long and fruitful life, he created more than 15,000 black-and-white and color illustrations, the most popular of which are illustrations for the book "The Fate of the Good Soldier Schweik".
