SOS and SOU Horky nad Jizerou

The school is located at the Horky chateau, the main areas are gastronomy, tourism and agriculture. The Baroque chateau was created by rebuilding a Renaissance chateau, which was preceded by a Gothic fortress.

The chateau building stands on the site of an ancient wooden fortress guarding a significant ford across the Jizera. A settlement was established around it from 1346, named Horka. The elevated position on a steep watchtower above the valley of the river Jizera, together with the Church of St. Nicholas, forms clear highlights of the local surroundings. There are no reports about the founding of the fortress (as well as about the original form), the first documented owner was Franěk of Brodec in 1346. Other owners included the Škopková family from Dubá and Jan z Obříství. The oldest and historically most valuable part of the building is the late Gothic tower, built at the end of the 15th century by the stonemason Staňek from the Lesser Town of Prague for the then owner of the chateau, Václav Klusák from Kostelec.
