The allegorical sculpture was created between 1911-13 by Jan Štursa in collaboration with Otakar Velinský and František Řehoř. The material is very hard Bohemian sandstone - the sculptures are often referred to as the first significant work made of this type of stone in the Czech Republic. They were originally installed at the entrance to the bridge, but were restored and relocated during the construction of the intersection in 1956. In both cases the sculpture consists of four figures. The female and male figures are alternately depicted in standing and semi-kneeling poses.
