Since it´s inception the square has been named after the monastery of the order of the Johannites. In the middle of the square you can admire the top Baroque sculpture of the patron saint of the Order of the Knights - John the Baptist. It was set up in 1715 as an expression of thanks for averting the plague. The sculpture originally formed the middle of the fountain, but it was abolished in the eighties of the 19th century. The work on sculpture was commissioned by the Prague sculpture workshop of Jan Brokoff (1652-1718). The author of the work is his second-born son Ferdinand Maxmilián Brokof (1688-1731). The sculpture was restored in 1988 by academic sculptor Drahomíra Šťovíčková.

This statue I saw on the way to the John Lennon Wall is said to be the work of the craftsman who made the stone statues of Charles Bridge. Please take a look at it on your way to the Lennon Wall.

The statue and architecture of the buildings around are worth a visit if you are nearby. But don’t expect too much. It’s still a statue.

The statue of John the Baptist is an outdoor sculpture by leading Baroque Era sculptor Ferdinand Maxmilián Brokoff, installed at Maltézské Square in Malá Strana, Prague, Czech Republic. Brokoff is also credited for creating some of the stellar statues on Charles Bridge in Prague, including the statuary of St. Adalbert, the statue of St. Gaetano, the sculpture group of Francis Borgia, the statues of St. Ignatius and Francis Xaverius, Statues of Saints John of Matha, Felix of Valois and Ivan including the famous statue of Turk, and so on.

The Maltezske Namesti is a public square in the Malá Strana district of Prague. There's not really much in the square, although there are some cafes and restaurants, but not really a tourist hotspot. The square a monument to St John the Baptist and is also close to Mary under the chains church, but I wouldn't go out of the way for any of these things. Only visit if you have time, especially as the place seems quite quiet by early evening.
