The Iron Bridge in Kácov is a really interesting building. It is an emergency repaired original bridge, on the pillars of which a steel truss bridge from the Bailey Bridge kit was placed. It is one of the most successful constructions of World War II, authored by Brit Donald Bailey. He was even promoted to a noble status for the construction of this bridge. Although the construction of the bridge looks rather awkward, it excels in its versatility and simplicity. This allows the creation of almost any bridge structure. Thanks to this, it was possible to build both small bridges, but also relatively large and tall bridges. Probably for this reason, the bridges of the Bailey Bridge kit are still not only used without significant changes, but also newly manufactured. These bridges came to our territory mainly from the post-war period with the help of UNRRA (United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration), which flowed to us in the years 1946 to 1948. They are still often used as emergency bridges during natural disasters, such as floods. This is a rather interesting building.
