Little known place, quite impressive for its time

Beautiful quiet place. Period atmosphere

The defunct castle - the ancient seat of the Drslavice family, also called Starý Rýzmberk, was allegedly founded in 1040 after the battle of the Czechs with Jindřich III. During the architectural research, ceramics from the 11th century were found here. Fortifications and other archaeological finds point to a castle from the first half of the 13th century. The legend is given by the so-called "Žižek's ramparts", a camp from the time of the siege of N. Heršteijn. However, the actual age of the Ditches is much greater. An archeological probe revealed a solid fortified settlement from the 11th century. Apparently, a defensive border castle of the Czech prince was built here, perhaps in connection with the fight between Prince Břetislav I and King Henry III of Germany. The fort was located on an elliptical plateau measuring 76 x 27 m. On the steep slope, the castle was fortified by ramparts, 10, 18, and 15 m apart, and deep moats. Unfortunately, the castle (probably wooden) timbered buildings have not been preserved. To this day, two deep ditches have been preserved, partially supplemented by a third. A marked path from Rýzmberk to Nový Herštejn passes through the place. The archeological probe has revealed a solid 11th-century fortress. Probably here was the defense border castle of the Czech prince, perhaps in connection with the battle of Prince Břetislav I with the German King Jindřich III. The fortress was situated on an elliptical platform measuring 76 x 27 m. In a steep slope the fortified lines were defending the castle, 10, 18 and 15 meters apart, with deep ditches. The castle (presumably wooden) timbered buildings have unfortunately not been preserved. Two deep ditches, partially completed with the third, have been preserved to this day. The marked path goes throughout these places from Rýzmberk to Nový Herštejn.

Beautiful Slavonic fort, with preserved ramparts, moats. Energy place. Harder access ...

It is a little known place. At the time, it is certainly an impressive building, although to this day it is not known exactly what it was used for. If you make a trip to Nový Herštýn, be sure to go see it here as well. It is about 2 km.
