One of the historical buildings added from Gothic to Baroque. Those who are interested will find many elements of the Renaissance. building.

Like the vast majority of churches in the Czech Republic, this one is basically still closed, so you can just look from the outside, or if you're lucky, at most through the grille in the door.

The oldest city church of the Assumption of the Most Holy Theotokos looks out onto Comenius Square with its rear part. The first stone at the foundation of the modern temple was laid in 1406. However, according to the annals of Gayak, as early as the 10th century there was a wooden church named in honor of the Mother of God on this place. At that time, the Church of the Mother of God was located directly at the city walls. Gradually, the city expanded its borders and the temple was in its central part. At the request of the burghers, King Wenceslas IV in 1406 authorized the construction of a stone church, which has retained its basic appearance and has survived to this day. The construction of the temple was stopped due to the Hussite wars and continued only in the second half of the 15th century. In 1470, an altar was laid under the vaults, as evidenced by the shield of the Lords of Gimburg installed inside. Subsequently, the temple was repeatedly rebuilt and acquired new architectural features. In the 18th century, the front part of the main entrance acquired baroque features. During the Second World War, the temple was seriously damaged by air strikes in 1945, as a result of which the vault collapsed. In 1946, the exterior walls of the church were restored. In the 1950s, the main altar and the pulpit were restored, and two side altars were preserved. Restoration work was carried out in the same way in the 70s and 90s of the last century. The last renovation in the temple was in 2002-2005.

The foundation of the church is estimated around 1334, but it is certainly not excluded that it has an older background. In it´s place the chapel of St. Adalbert could stand (according to existing documents), who was on the Boleslav fortified settlement , outside the perimeter of the later Royal Castle. First, the church was wooden, later made of stone. The patron of Mladá Boleslav, Kateřina Militka, rebuilt the church at its expense in the late-Gothic style in 1566. The church was then rebuilt in 1702 after the fire of the town in the Baroque style by the architect Mikuláš Rossi. The interior of the church is decorated with Renaissance frescoes, the most precious subject is undoubtedly a Gothic baptize vessel from the second half of the 15th century.
