Kostel je vzhledem k době svého vzniku a okolní zástavbě orientován k jihu, hranolová věž tedy stojí v severním průčelí a tvoří výraznou dominantu obce.
The impressive pseudo-gothic longitudinal single-nave church was built between 1893 and 1895 on the site of an original small wooden church (or perhaps a chapel dating from the 14th century) with the help of locals, thanks to which the construction was completed within just two years. Patron of the church was Prince Adolf Josef Schwarzenberg and Countess Marie Antonie Silva-Tarouca. The original wooden church is mentioned together with the parish in 1460 when the former owner of the village Mathes von Fiala built the chapel of the Virgin Mary with a small bell at the lower end of the village.
Due to the time of its origin and the surrounding area, the newly built church is oriented towards the south with it´s prismatic tower standing in the northern facade and forming a significant dominant of the village. Architecturally, the structure was preserved in its original condition from 1895 and many interior details have been preserved from those times as well. The church bells were confiscated during the First and Second World Wars for the need of the army. Since 2005 the church has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
