Devátý křesťanský kostelík v Čechách byl patrně vysvěcený samotným Metodějem. Údajnému velkému stáří původního kostela napovídá velmi archaické zasvěcení i umístění v obvodu jednoho ze správních hradišť raně středověkého přemyslovského státu. Kolem kostela stála kdysi ves Prácheň. Loď byla barokně upravována, kostel byl regotizován 1859. Je obklopen hřbitovem na němž je pohřben spisovatel Josef Pavel a regionální historik Karel Němec.
