The first evidence of the town of Horažďovice bears the seal from 1278, the town was fortified at the end of the 13th century, the fortification line contained two gates and a fort along its perimeter, later it was supplemented by another gate. The eastern side with a half-cylindrical tower has been preserved from the walls, and a bastion closed on a double-sided side in the north-eastern bend. The Prague (Red) Gate, the rest of the Prachatice Gate and a small gate (Fortna) have been preserved from the gates. The third gate standing on the northeast side towards the end of today's Ševčíkova Street disappeared sometime around the middle of the 19th century. Behind the walls, inside the city, there was a moat, later buried and a fence, up to 14 meters wide in places, serving as part of the fortifications. After later strengthening, the walls had a total of 12 bastions. The walls were later fortified with 12 bastions.
