Nice square, but in the evenings it's not the safest place in town.

Messy, cars everywhere, busy road in the middle of the square, horror, one of the ugliest squares, if you can call it that.

Pěkné náměstíčko, hlavní přestupní bod pro autobusy. Pořádají se tu trhy.
Nice square, the main transfer point for buses. There are markets.

Až do 20. století nazývalo Tržní. The rectangular square measuring 75 x 125 meters was the center of the city's outline and it´s natural center. From the seven streets leading from it to the city walls, the main roads were Benešovská street (today Myslbekova) in the east and Lodní (now Plavební) in the west direction. Until the 20th century, it was called Market place. With the establishment of the first municipal water supply system in 1509 Děčín inhabitants built a fountain in the square. In the rebuilt burghers' houses from the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century, the style of the Nordic Renaissance brought from Saxony into northern Bohemia. In 1668-1670 Maximilian Count Thun built the Loretan Chapel with a tomb in the middle of the square, which dominated the entire square with it´s monumentality. The chapel was surrounded by a balustrade decorated with statues on the pillars and poplars were planted around it. In the 19th century the loretta became an obstacle to the evolving traffic and was therefore pulled down in 1885. At the turn of the 19th and 20th century, the square changed with the rebuilding of houses. As a result of the demolition after 1960 and other radical interventions - the establishment of a transit road and a crossroads at the church of St. Václav and Blažej, as well as the subway under the square (as a non-functional overlaid after 1989), the area of the square was seriously disturbed.
