Město Rudná vznikla 1. ledna 1951 sloučením dosud samostatných obcí Dušníky a Hořelice. The town of Rudná was established on 1 January 1951 by merging the previously independent municipalities of Dušníky and Hořelice. Local school children reportedly proposed a new name for the merged municipalities. The wider surroundings were already inhabited in the Bronze Age. The first known mention of the village Dušníky refers to the year 1228, the village Hořelice first mentioned even around the year 1052. Since the mid-19th century, the development of Rudná and surroundings is connected with the development of black coal mining, and then the introduction of the railway from Prague to Beroun. Rudná has been a town since 2000 and today it has over 5,000 inhabitants.
