The oldest city fortification probably had only a light wooden structure. In 1392 the city of Mladá Boleslav acquired the city law to Benešov, among other things with the right of fortification. Soon afterwards, stone city walls with an external moat were built. After 1511, all three city gates (Western, Eastern and Southeast) were probably repaired. The fortification took place along the entire city. In the northwest a fortress was joined to the wall, a church was bordered at the northeastern end, and then rolled along the field edge to the south. But it did not lead to the confluence itself, but still about 100m in front of it just turned to the west. Then it turned to the north like an arch and was connected to the part described at the city fortress. With the exception of a part of the eastern side, the entire perimeter was accompanied by a ditch with an external outer top. On the north side, the trench was doubled, the terrain above the town rises slightly. The Gothic Church of the Birth of Virgin Mary was incorporated into the defense system on the northeast of the town´s core - the city walls were joined to it, and to this day a portion of the fortifications have survived. The church was built in the years 1483-1557 on the site of an older building, from which the main tower in the northwest corner was preserved - also fulfilling the defensive function. Until today, part of the wall on the northern side and a continuous moat with an external outer top along the almost entire northern side were preserved from the city fortifications. The remnant of the ditch on the west side is the terrain depression that is being led today by Cihelná Street. Traces of terraces along the southern and southeast sides are also traced to the defunct fortifications. A possible remains of the fortifications is also a valley formation at the northeast corner of the city by the church.
The remains of the medieval fortifications in Benešov nad Ploučnicí are not as spectacular as in many other cities in Bohemia, however, especially in the north-eastern part of the city, the buildings of the former fortification look very authentic. In addition, these places are a little away from the main tourist attractions of the city and provide an opportunity to walk and relax in a quiet and peaceful environment. It was the Gothic Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary that was incorporated into the defense system - the city walls were also attached to it, and part of this fortification has been preserved to this day. The church was built in the years 1483–1557 on the site of an older building, from which the main tower in the northwest corner was probably taken over, fulfilling a defensive function. The oldest city fortifications probably had only a light wooden structure. In 1392, the town of Mladá Boleslav acquired the Municipal Right, including with the right to a fortification. Soon after, stone city walls with an outer moat are built. After 1511, probably all three city gates (western, eastern and southeastern) were probably repaired. The tower gate towards Děčín was called Trčkova. There was a passage on the ground floor, the first floor with an armory was entered directly from the wall. The second floor was residential and the tower was terminated by a gallery. The fortifications ran along the entire city. In the north-western part, the city fortress joined the wall, fenced the church in the north-eastern tip and then turned along the terrain edge to the south. However, it did not lead to the confluence, but about 100m before it, it turned west. Then it turned north again in an arc and connected to the described part at the city fortress. With the exception of part of the eastern side, the entire perimeter was accompanied by a moat with an outer embankment. On the north side, the moat was doubled, because the terrain above the city rises slightly here. To this day, parts of the wall on the north side and a continuous moat with an outer embankment along almost the entire north side have been preserved from the city fortifications. The remnant of the moat on the west side is the terrain depression, which is led by today's Cihelná Street. Traces of extinct fortifications are also terraced along the south and southeast side. A possible remnant of the fortifications is also a ramparts in the northeastern tip of the city near the church. The oldest city fortification probably had only a light wooden structure.
