In the Middle Ages, Miller entered through two gates. However, only one survived to our days - Prague. Labskie gates with the expansion of the city were demolished and, unfortunately, there was no trace of them. According to some historians, the Prague Gate was built in the late 13th century in the Gothic style. During their existence, they underwent several reconstructions. In 1536, the Prague Gate was rebuilt in the Renaissance style, and the gate part of the tower was increased by one and a half floors. Subsequent transformations occurred mainly due to fires - in 1652 and 1799. However, these reconstructions did not make significant changes in the appearance. In the 19th century, the city fortifications of Miller began to be demolished gradually. This fate could befall the Prague Gate. In 1836 they were sold and for some time used as a reservoir for water. Water was pumped from the Pshovka River, and then delivered to the city fountains. In 1916 and 1920, the Prague Gate underwent reconstruction again. The architect Camille Hilbert supervised the work. As a result, a clock appeared on the tower, the mechanisms of which you can see if you visit the tower. Today it houses a gallery and a cozy cafe, which is simply and functionally called "In the Tower". And at the highest point of the Prague Gate there is an observation deck, from where a stunning view of not only the city, but also its surroundings.

In addition to a convenient position on a hill above the confluence of two rivers, Mělník was protected by fortification walls with battlements complemented by defensive bastions. The entrance to the city was made possible by two guarded gates and a pedestrian fort. The remains of the preserved fortifications and one of the bastions are located in Jungmannovy sady. The Prague Gate has also been preserved in a Gothic tower, which stands today between two main squares. The tower was used not only for defense, but also served as a prison, later it was moved here by a reservoir. Since the end of the 1960s, its premises have been living a culture. At present, the Ve Věži gallery is located here, which attracts not only a tour of the exhibited works of art, but also a sitting with a good coffee. The windows on the top floor offer unusual views of the city.
