Although Sobotka is a small town (just under 2,500 inhabitants), it boasts several famous natives. Next to the famous Fráni Šrámek, you will find houses of two personalities who may seem a bit confusing to an unfamiliar "foreigner". East of the square you can see the beautiful timbered birthplace of the actor and poet Václav Šolc, while on the square stands the stone birthplace of the ethnographer, traveler and writer Václav Šolc. However, the main area of ​​Šolc's scientific research was the Native American cultures of both American subcontinents, and thanks to him, the first permanent exhibition of American cultures was opened in 1965 in the Náprstek Museum, which was the first in the whole of Czechoslovakia.
