Although Sobotka is a small town (just under 2500 inhabitants), it can be proud of several famous natives. In addition to the famous Fráňa Šrámek, you will find here houses of two personalities which may seem a bit confusing to the unfamiliar "stranger". East of the square you can see the beautiful timbered homestead of the actor and poet Václav Šolc, while the square houses the birthplace of the ethnographer, traveler and writer Václav Šolc. However, the main area of Šolc's research and development activities was the Indian cultures of both American subcontinents, and thanks to him the first permanent exhibition of American cultures, which was the first in Czechoslovakia, was opened in Náprstek Museum in 1965.
