About St. Wenceslas Church
Vršovická farnost je živé společenství katolických křesťanů všech věkových kategorií, všemožných profesí či zaměstnání i životních stavů. Zčásti jsou to vršovičtí starousedlíci, zčásti lidé, kteří bydlí jinde, ale svůj duchovní domov našli z různých důvodů zde.
V čele každé farnosti stojí farář či administrátor. Je vybaven autoritou a pravomocemi, které mají sloužit rozvoji života farního společenství. Jeho úkolem je pečovat o duchovní dobro svých farníků, svou autoritou vést, podporovat, zastřešovat a usměrňovat aktivity, které se ve farnosti konají. Řečeno tradičně, pomocí biblické mluvy, je farář pro jemu svěřené farníky pastýřem.
Jednotlivé katolické farnosti na určitém území tvoří tzv. diecézi. Právě (arci)diecéze v čele s (arci)biskupem jsou základními „buňkami“ světové katolické církve. Naše farnost je součástí Arcidiecéze pražské. Farář je zástupcem biskupa v dané farnosti.
Vedle aktivit, které tvoří jakýsi „povinný základ“ farního života (konání bohoslužeb, vysluhování svátostí), je zde řada aktivit, které vznikají a konají se čistě z dobrovolné iniciativy farníků. Ale ani základní aktivity, bohoslužby nevyjímaje, neleží pouze na bedrech faráře, ale jsou ve větší či menší míře společným dílem všech farníků.

 The Church of St. Wenceslas is a three-nave modern building standing on St. Bohemia's Square in Vršovice. It was built in the years 1929 - 1930 according to the project of the architect Josef Gočár. The functionalist church building made of reinforced concrete is considered to be one of the most successful church buildings in the Czech Republic.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ L'église Saint-Venceslas est typique du style fonctionnaliste. Construite au début du XXè siècle pour compenser la petite taille de l'église paroissiale Saint Nicolas de Vrsovice, elle est l'oeuvre de l'architecte Josef Gocar. Le plus remarquable dans cette église, outre l'immense clocher qui la surmonte, est le grand vitrail qui constitue le choeur. Il représente Saint Venceslas chevauchant, avec son serviteur de le Prince Radslav. Ce vitrail, aux dominantes rosées, apportent une couleur spéciale à l'ensemble de l'édifice.
C'est un lieu original, à voir si l'on est dans le quartier de Vrsovice, mais qui ne vaut pas le détour si l'on est en centre-ville. L'église est néanmoins très bien desservie par la ligne 22 du tram.
The Saint-Wenceslas church is typical of the functionalist style. Built at the beginning of the XXth century to compensate for the small size of the parish church of Saint Nicholas in Vrsovice, it is the work of the architect Josef Gocar. The most remarkable in this church, in addition to the immense bell tower which overcomes it, is the large stained glass window which constitutes the choir. It represents overlapping Saint Wenceslas, with his servant of Prince Radslav. This stained glass window, predominantly pink, brings a special color to the whole building.
It is an original place, to see if you are in the Vrsovice district, but not worth the detour if you are in the city center. The church is nevertheless very well served by line 22 of the tram.
