★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nejstarší dochovaná kašna v Praze pochází z roku 1560. Letopočet najdete na mříži na jižní straně. Do dnešní podoby byla upravena z původně gotické kašny. Mramorový sokl nese ozdobnou kovanou mříž z propletených kruhů a spirál.
The oldest preserved fountain in Prague dates back to 1560. The year can be found on the southern side of the grid. It was modified to it´s present form from the originally Gothic fountain. The marble plinth carries a decorative forged lattice made of interlaced circles and spirals. The grid has eleven fields and there is different decoration in each field. In the center of the fountain is a gilded lion with an angel, the work of the locksmith Jindřich Dufée from 1876-78. The original pumping equipment at the fountain was still in use in the 1990s. The water was pumped from the well under the fountain, 12 meters deep. For hygienic, technical and financial reasons, it was connected directly to the water mains at the beginning of the 21st century. Water flow is controlled by electronic shutters with programmable timers.

The original functional renaissance well from 1560 is protected by a colorful hand-wrought grate decorated with ornaments and on the edges of angel characters. In the 17th century the poppy was supplemented with a Czech lion. Well and its facilities are still functional.

During the Renaissance it was fashionable to decorate fountains with bars and cages. This well was modified and the author was probably locksmith, watchmaker and gunsmith Jiří Schmidthammer. After a hundred years, a lion and angels were added, and in 1878 Jindřich Dufée finished the reconstruction to its present form.
