Poděbradský jez je jeden z patnácti plavebních stupňů, které zajišťují splavnost Labe. Jeho funkce je kromě korekce toku řeky i výroba elektrické energie v malé vodní elektrárně. Byl dokončen roku 1924, i když jeho stavba začalo jíž o jedenáct let dříve. Nejdříve se vybudoval jez, po něm následovala stavba vodní elektrárna.
