As a reminder to the famous local watchmaker, the Kadaň Astronomical Clock is a very good idea. Perhaps just: on close inspection, you may be sorry that it's just a "statue", that it's not at least a little functional machine.

Beautiful place. I had no idea that there was a 'copy' of the Prague Astronomical Clock.

On the waterfront, around the river Ohře, a beautiful place. The machine is a work of art called: "Tribute to Nicholas of Kadaň."

The astronomical clock of Kadaň was unveiled on the embankment below the castle in 2014. Its creator, the monastery sculptor Karel Meloun, called it "Homage to Nicholas of Kadaň". It is a double enlarged copy of the original clockwork of the Prague Astronomical Clock from 1410 and an astrolabe of the same size as the original. The total weight of the sculpture is over 4 tons and the height reaches almost 6 meters. Seeing the work in the rays of the rising sun was a real experience, perhaps it was not possible to choose a more impressive place. In 1410, Mikuláš of Kadaň significantly contributed to the improvement of the astronomical clock in the Old Town Hall of Prague. Unfortunately, it was not possible to find his birth house, and therefore in 2010 was on the occasion of the 600th anniversary of the compilation of the Prague astronomical clock placed a native plaque on the town hall in Kadaň.
