Kostel svaté Ludmily

Not a very often accessible place, which has its own charm, captivates with its original interior, lots of paintings and, above all, the possibility of a hidebar experience when the organ is played. There is a very pleasant acoustics when using other instruments. I recommend the visit.

The beautiful Capuchin Square is terminated by the Church of Sts. Ludmily, which is a former Capuchin monastic church. The Early Baroque building from 1657 stands out for its simple facade. In front of the church stands a statue of St. John of Nepomuk.

The building of the church of St. Ludmila with a former Capuchin monastery was built on the site of 27 houses devastated during the Thirty Years' War. The monastery complex was the first to be built in the years 1647-1648. To its northeast corner was added in 1656 the church of St. Ludmila, modified in 1848. The former monastery is a four-winged complex grouped around a square garden of paradise. Remains of arcades of cloisters were discovered in the northern and eastern wings. Today, the building serves as a school dormitory. The church is a single-nave building with an indented and enclosed presbytery. The interior has a barrel vault with ridge lunettes, the side chapel is glazed with a cross vault with ridges. The main altar is by Tobias Pock from 1660 with an altarpiece of St. Ludmila. The church of St. Ludmila with the former Capuchin monastery were built on the site of 27 houses ravaged during the Thirty Years' War. The first monastery complex was built between 1647-1648. The church of St. Ludmila was added to its northeast corner in 1848. The former monastery is a four-winged palace complex grouped around a squared "Paradise courtyard". In the northern and eastern flanks the remnants of the arcades of the ambit were discovered. The building now serves as a boarding school. The church has a single-nave structure with an enclosed and flat presbytery. The interior has a veneered vault with nail lunets, the side chapel is decorated with a cross vault with nails. The main altar is from Tobias Pock from 1660 with the altar picture of St. Ludmila.
