In the old center of Litoměřice there are lots of constructional monuments concentrated in a relatively small area, whether it is a sacral, secular or technical architecture. It is no wonder, therefore, that at the heart of the city we find fountains equal to four, of which two are located near to each other on Mírové Square. Both identical fountains on the Peace Square were built on the site of the original ones in 1541. The upper fountain was built as wooden master Martin of Žitava in 1715 and later replaced by a baroque stone fountain on which the sculptures of four dolphins are placed in whose mouths are open water spouts. On their erect tail fins a circular shell with fountain is placed. The lower stone fountain was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War, and in the middle of the 19th century it was replaced by a copy of the upper fountain. The fountains were restored by the academic sculptor Čestmír Mudruňka in 1994. If you are a fan of old technical architecture, and you would like to see a third fountain, just walk from the square through Mácha's stairs or Jesuitská street to the southern rampart, you can find the last one in the fortification wall covered with grating.
