Byť je deklarováno, že pískovec, z kterého jsou zhotoveny, vydrží i 300 let bez zřetelného opotřebení, tak agresivní meteorologické vlivy udělají své. A za druhé - nátěr v příslušné barevné kombinaci hodnotu díla výrazně zvýšil. Naopak ta dnešní šedivost ...doplň si dle svého vlastního názoru. "Марианская колонна" на Градчанах была создана в 1726 году скульптором Фердинандом Брокоффом. Но, мастеру так и не удалось ее завершить, финальные штрихи уже были сделаны его учеником Францем Вайсом. Столб был установлен на месте, где в период чумы прямо под открытым небом священнослужители вели непрерывные богослужения. Саму колонну венчает двухметровая статуя Девы Марии. На верхнем пьедестале вокруг столба расположены фигуры святых покровителей Вацлава, Войтеха и Вита; на нижнем - святых Петра, Павла и Флориана, Карла Боромейского, Яна Непомуцкого и Елизаветы Тюрингской, подающей милостыню нищему. Монумент включен в список охраняемых памятников культуры Чехии. Самая ценная из статуй, фигура Девы Марии, в 1894 году была заменена копией, а оригинал, как и многие древние архитектурные ценности Праги, хранится сегодня в Лапидариуме Национального музея. In the central part of Hradchansky Square, the Mariana Column towers or, as such monuments are most often called throughout Europe, the Plague Column. The Mariana Column on Hradcany was created in 1726 by the sculptor Ferdinand Brokoff. But, the master did not manage to complete it, the final touches were already made by his pupil Franz Weiss. The pillar was installed at the place where, during the period of the plague, the clergymen conducted continuous worship services right under the open sky. The column itself is crowned by a two-meter statue of the Virgin Mary. On the upper pedestal around the pillar are the figures of the patron saints of Wenceslaus, Vojtech and Vit; on the bottom - of saints Peter, Paul and Florian, Karl Boromeysky, Jan of Nepomuk and Elizabeth of Thuring, giving alms to the beggar. The monument is included in the list of protected cultural monuments of the Czech Republic. The most valuable of the statues, the figure of the Virgin Mary, in 1894 was replaced by a copy, and the original, like many of the ancient architectural values of Prague, is stored today in the Lapidarium of the National Museum.

As with all Marian columns, this one also features a sculpture of Mary on a tall column. Around the base of the column are sculptures depicting individuals handing out food to the needy and an I think an allegorical figure of history. I like this monument for there’s a narrative around the sculptures. This column is located on Hradcany Square in front of the entrance to Prague Castle. It’s worth a look if visiting the castle.
