★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Czech writer, playwright and politician Alois Jirásek was born on August 23, 1851 in Hronov, died in Prague on March 12, 1930, but was buried in his native Hronov. He taught history at the grammar school in Litomyšl and later in Prague. With his large family (with his wife Maria, née Podhajská, he had eight children) he moved in 1903 to a spacious apartment in a corner house on today's Jirásek Square No. 1775/4. He lived here until his death in 1930. Alois Jirásek is commemorated not only by a memorial plaque on the house, but also by the writer's monument on Jirásek Square. And Jirásek's bridge also bears his name.
Zde žil až do své smrti v roce 1930. A jeho jméno nese i Jiráskův most.
