Regional Museum Melnik

The Mělník Regional Museum, founded in 1888, is located on náměstí Míru in the building of a former Capuchin monastery next to the Church of the Fourteen Holy Helpers. In the historic building, it offers several permanent exhibitions focused on the history and nature of the region and the history of viticulture in Bohemia. The exhibition mapping the development of prams in the Czech Republic is located in nearby Ostruhová Street. In addition to permanent exhibitions, you can also visit interesting temporary exhibitions, often intended for families with children. A café with indoor and outdoor seating or a wine cellar with wine tastings invite you to relax.

The Mělník Regional Museum is housed in a beautifully landscaped building of a former Capuchin monastery, originally a burgher's house dating from the second half of the 14th century in the historic city center. The building has preserved the original Art Nouveau murals and Gothic cellars. In the historic interior you will find a permanent exhibition of the museum, whose main theme is regional history, nature and viticulture. Part of the exposition of the winery is located in the original medieval cellars - it is possible to arrange a tasting. The second permanent exhibition of historic prams is located in a separate building in Ostruhová Street and 100 meters from the main museum building. I was most interested in the exhibition "Insights into the medieval city" on the first floor of the monastery building, where a number of interesting exhibits from everyday life are exhibited, but also some works of art from the adjoining church of the Fourteen Holy Helpers or necessary work aids for winemakers. It is also worth mentioning the scale model of the medieval town, whose fortifications copied the irregular shape of the older Přemyslid fort.
