In the northern part of the square, directly opposite the Teplice Chateau a classicist house called the "Golden Cross" stands. The house was built as a hotel in 1809 by the wealthy family of the future Mayor of Teplice, Eduard John. In thirty rooms a number of distinguished guests have been changing during it´s operation but three of them are remembered far beyond the city. It was here that after the key battle at Chlumec and Přestanov in September 1813 the Russian, Austrian and Prussian rulers met together to negotiate further action against Napoleon, which reminds on the commemorative plaque. The building still serves as a living one and will surprise you with the exceptionally preserved main façade.
