Терять свое значение и вытесняться электрическими фонарями газовые уличные светильники начали в конце 19 и начале 20 века. Но, еще в 1940 году пражские улицы освещало 9 тысяч фонарей разного размера, подключенных к системе газификации. Именно этот период и стал переломным. Старинные фонари тогда начали исчезать весьма стремительно. Последними в электрические фонари в 1985 году были превращены два гигантских канделябра на Градчанской площади и Лоретанской улице. В 2002 году началась эра возрождения газовой романтики. Первые 9 фонарей были вновь возвращены на пражскую Михалскую улицу. К концу 2010 года газ зашипел и в светильниках Карлова моста. И ныне их в Праге 680. «Расположены они на протяжении всего Королевского пути – у Пороховых ворот, на Староместкой площади, на Карловом мосте, который является единственным в мире мостом, полностью освещенным газовыми фонарями. На Гардчанской площади находится исторический уличный канделябр с восьмью разветвлениями. В 1882 году подобных фонарей в Праге было шестнадцать. Ныне же сохранилось только два. Высота канделябра на Градчанской площади – 8 метров, а ширина – 4 метра. A very beautiful lamppost was installed in the 18th century on Hradcany Square in Prague.
