Church of Ascension of the Holy Cross is a part of the Nižbor Castle and it is accessible from the castle courtyard. A red marked, steeply rising trail leads to the chateau and church from the bridge. If you follow it a beautiful view of the Berounka valley will reward you at the top of the rock promontory at the huge mission cross below the church. The original castle palace in Nižbor was finished the Early Gothic Chapel of St. Catherine with dimensions of 8 x 5 m. The longitudinal axis of the former chapel faces to the east, so it is perpendicular to the axis of the present church. During the reconstruction of the original castle under Jan Josef Count Valdštejn in 1724 to the current form the sacristy was added to the chapel. When the foundations were dug, a cross was found in the ground, which was preserved probably from the Hussite wars. According to the wishes of the Earl of Valdštejn, the new church was initially dedicated to "Finding" and then (at the 100th anniversary of the discovery) to the "Ascension of the Holy Cross". The church became parish in 1857. It is a baroque single-nave rectangular structure with dimensions 12 x 8 m with flat ceiling and two side recessed chapels. The presbytery is square with dimensions 8 x 8 m and is arched by the Czech vault. The back side of the church is located in the northern part of the nave and is supported by two pillars. The organs come from around 1800, they have a rococo cupboard with a classicist décor and were built by organist Ferdinand Guth of Čistá. Interesting fact: There is a cellar space under the church built in the years 1734-1737 by Marie Anna Princess Fürstenberg as a princely tomb, but as a result of the Josephine reforms it was never used for this purpose (burials inside of the churches was banned since then). However, it is possible to see the torso of the original Early Gothic castle chapel from the 13th century.
Church of the Exaltation of St. The cross is a building part of the Nižbor chateau and the entrance to it is from the chateau courtyard. From the bridge, a red-marked, steeply ascending path leads to the chateau and the church. If you go after it, at the mission cross on the top of a rocky promontory under the church, a beautiful view of the Berounka valley awaits you. The original castle palace in Nižbor was topped above the tip of the promontory by the early Gothic chapel of St. Kateřiny with dimensions of 8 x 5 m. The longitudinal axis of the former chapel points to the east, ie perpendicular to the axis of the current church. During the reconstruction of the original castle under Jan Josef, Count of Wallenstein in 1724, to the current form, the chapel of St. Catherine added a sacristy. During the excavation of the foundations, a cross was found in the country, which was probably stored there during the Hussite wars. According to the wishes of the Count of Wallenstein, the new church was first dedicated to "Finding" and on the 100th anniversary of the find, then to the "Exaltation of the Holy Cross". The church became a parish in 1857. It is a Baroque single-nave rectangular building measuring 12 x 8 m with a flat ceiling and two side niche chapels. The presbytery is square with dimensions of 8 x 8 m and is vaulted with a Czech vault. Kruchta is located in the northern part of the ship and is supported by two columns. The organ on it dates from around 1800, has a Rococo cabinet with a Classicist decor and was built by organist Ferdinand Guth from Čistá. Interesting: Under the castle church of the Exaltation of St. The cross is a cellar, which was modified by Marie Anna Princess Fürstenberg as a princely tomb in the years 1734-1737, but due to Josephine reforms it was never used for this purpose (it was no longer allowed to be buried inside churches).
